Principles of Project Promotion

In accordance with the Decree on the Establishment of the BISp (PDF, 106KB, file is barrier-free/accessible), the BISp’s core task is to promote scientific research projects in the field of high-performance sport in Germany. That includes identifying the need for research, initiating, promoting and coordinating planned research projects, evaluating research findings and the target group-specific transfer of research findings to scientists, sports practitioners and policymakers.

BISp-funded research projects deal with aspects of top-level sport, including youth development and talent scouting, sports equipment, sports facilities, anti-doping, integration, racism, right-wing extremism, discrimination and issues around sport development that are important to Germany as a whole and cannot effectively be promoted by an individual federal state on its own.

The BISp works in close cooperation and in regular dialogue with the Scientific Advisory Board as well as with partners from sport and science on the development of its research promotion.
