The Scientific Network for High-Performance Sport (WVL)

The BISp does not act in isolation within its remit but together and in partnership with the Scientific Network for High-Performance Sport (WVL). This is a network of publicly-funded facilities and institutions with close links to high-performance sport. The aim is for the network to use effective, efficient research and development, future-proofed scientifically-oriented support and advisory services and tailor-made training offers to help guarantee and expand, in the medium term, the competitiveness of high-performing German athletes at the international level.

Members of the WVL include the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI), the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), federal state representatives, leading Olympic and Paralympic sports associations, their athletes, coaches, Olympic training centres, the DOSB Coaching Academy, the Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT), the Institute for the Research and Development of Sports Equipment (FES), (non-)university (sport) science institutions, institutes and professional bodies, the Top-Level Sport Innovation Hub and the BISp.

WVL projects

The WVL is responsible for examining complex research problems that arise in high-performance sport – across all sports – then suggesting topics for WVL projects that, after coordinating with the BMI and DOSB, are implemented by the BISp.
WVL projects are only awarded as joint projec
