WISS – A network for innovation in top-level sport in Germany
The Wearables in Top-Level Sport (WISS, Wearables im Spitzensport) Innovation Network was established in July 2015 on the initiative of the BISp and Innovationsmanufaktur GmbH, Munich. The goal was to uncover the potentials of wearables (wearable technologies) and to increase their use in top-level sport in Germany. Even though top-level sportspeople are its focus group, the network naturally wants to reach out to all high-performing German athletes. Previous work in the WISS network has already led to numerous interdisciplinary cooperation projects and projects involving sports practitioners, technology developers and scientists.
In August 2017 the WISS Network took this approach one step further: Against the backdrop of positive feedback it had received up until that point, the focus of its work was expanded beyond wearables and included the creation of an innovation network for top-level sport in Germany. Within the Network – whose motto is “we│innovation in top-level sport” – the WISS initiators work with representatives of and experts from sports associations and organisations as well as people from science, business and technology on establishing an effective structure to promote innovation. The aim is to provide German athletes with optimum support in their quest for medals through innovative solutions.
WISS-Netz.de, the Network’s platform, plays a key role when it comes to putting this idea into practice. Also, a new networking space was recently created for sports directors in sports associations – a safe space for sharing ideas and experience. Science coordinators and Olympic training centres also have a similar space in which they can share new insights and innovative ideas.
In principle, any and all interested stakeholders who want to be involved in identifying shared potentials for innovation for top-level German sport and realise innovations can and should be involved in the WISS Network. That is why sports practitioners, scientists, businesspeople and technology experts are warmly invited to join the WISS Network and bring their know-how with them.
