Outdoor sports facilities are an important part of the urban and regional infrastructure. They serve sport, leisure and recreation, thus meeting people’s social and cultural needs. What is urgently needed is a system for the sustainable development of outdoor sports facilities that promotes a lasting consensus between the stakeholders, the costs and the environment. When designing a sustainable outdoor sports facility, the goal is to develop a concept for long-term operation, taking into account the interests of users, operators, residents and the environment. The planning phase of an outdoor sports facility should consider the development over a period of 50 years, while weighing up different criteria.
