German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research. Olympism and the Olympics. Anticipating, monitoring, and evaluating the 2020 games.

The German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research, an up-and-coming international journal (and successor to Germany’s leading national journal in sport science: Sportwissenschaft, 1971-2016) invites authors to contribute articles to the thematic issue “Olympism and the Olympics. Anticipating, monitoring, and evaluating the 2020 games”, which will be published in December 2020 (Vol. 50, Issue 4).

The Olympic Games will once again be the center of attention of this upcoming year of sport. For better or worse, they will again extend beyond the few days of their delivery. There are topics that are already obvious and others that will come up during the games. We have configured submission tracks for both.

The goal of this thematic issue is to combine research perspectives from science and medicine (e.g. physiology and sports medicine, training and exercise science, biomechanics) with those from the humanities (e.g. sport philosophy, sport history, physical education, health) and from various social and behavioural academic disciplines (e.g. sport sociology, sport psychology, sport management). Eight senior action editors (Prof. Brand, Prof. Groeben, Prof. Kaiser-Jovy, Prof. Sudeck, and Prof. Weigelt for humanities, economics, social and behavioral sciences; Prof. Sperlich, Prof. Voelcker-Rehage, and PD Dr. Wollesen for science and medicine) will provide expert support for all submitted papers.

We ask authors to submit original articles (main articles, brief communications, reviews), academic essays, commentaries or discussion papers on topics related to olympism and olympics in the most general sense. All papers will undergo rigorous double-blind peer review and all accepted articles will be published online-first (soon after acceptance) on the Springer Nature electronic publishing platform (open access publication is possible upon request).

We ask authors to submit their papers using the journal’s electronic Editorial Manager system (www.editorialmanager.com/spwi) before 1 June 2020. Contributions can furthermore be registered for fast track double-blind peer review until 4 August 2020 by sending an email with a short synopsis of the planned submission to the journal’s Editor-in-Chief. If such a contribution is accepted for peer review, authors must be prepared to respond to all editor and peer reviewer comments at very short notice. Instructions for authors are available on the journal’s homepage (https://springer.com/journal/12662). Only articles written in English will be eligible for peer review.

Editors-in-Chief:
